Vows at a wedding are a time to open your heart to your partner. If you’re not sure how to go about writing them, or simply don’t know where to start, here are some tips that might help.

  • WRITE THEM DOWN AS YOU GO ALONG

The writing of the vows can be prepared well in advance, I advise you not to do it the day before your wedding. Indeed, you risk rushing them, not finding inspiration, forgetting them, or making a text that will not be personal. I advise you to collect sentences, words, lyrics of a song that inspire you, quotes, anecdotes, things that touch you and that you would like to share with everyone on the day. Once you have collected these notes, your text will be easier to write.

  • STRUCTURE THEM

Structuring your vows will make them easier to write and read.  Randomly shared, disorganised ideas can cause you to lose your way, or worse, lose those who will listen to you. You can try practising at home, either alone or with someone close to you, so that you feel more comfortable on the big day. Why not opt for a chronological speech? You can talk about how you met, the key events in your life together, the good memories. A sort of list recalling the good times of the past, and then moving on to your vision of the future with your partner. There are hundreds of ways to express your love, trust yourself, and be yourself.

  • THEY MUST BE PERSONAL

If your personality is outgoing and full of energy, don’t force yourself to hide behind an overly formal speech, or one filled with emotions and tears.
Your soul mate knows and loves you for all those personality traits that are unique to you. Don’t try to put yourself in a role that doesn’t suit you.

There is no specific format, write something that suits you, that your spouse will like, and above all, enjoy your moment!

Wedding vows are a time to open your heart to your partner. Write something that reflects you and above all, enjoy !
